Comval observes nutrition month
COMPOSTELA VALLEY PROVINCE – The province has set various activities in line with the celebration of the country’s 40th Nutrition Month with a theme, “Kalamidad paghandaan: Gutom at malnutrisyon agapan!” (Prepare for emergencies to prevent hunger and malnutrition!).
The launching on July 1, 2014 at the Capitol was highlighted by a vegetable cooking contest spearheaded by the Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC) chaired by Governor Arturo T. Uy. It was participated by parents who were cooking contest winners in the barangay during the series of “Dugang Kahibalo Cooking Demo” conducted by the PNC under the Adopt-A-Child Program. Other participants were from different offices of the provincial government and the national government agencies.
Declared winners were Brgy. Cadunan on the Parents’ Category; Tourism and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) on the Provincial Offices’ Category and; National Food Authority (NFA) for the National Offices’ Category. Consisting the panel of judges were the Provincial Hospital dieticians.
Leading the event were Provincial Nutrition action officer Raymundo Pajarito who encouraged everyone to respond aggressively to malnutrition problem, and Senior Board Member Tyron L. Uy- chairman of Committee on Health and Social Services who shared that Comval is ahead of other provinces in the region when it comes to nutrition support programs, further citing the Adopt-A-Child Program where the concept of bayanihan do exist.
Vice Governor Manuel “Way Kurat” Zamora, board member Macario Humol, provincial administrator Virgilia S. Allones, assistant provincial administrator Fernando T. J uab, assistant provincial health officer Dr. Jeorgie Arvin Legaspi and other officials and department heads witnessed the contest.
