51st Southern Ladies Open at Apo Golf in August

-

BEFORE anything else, I have good news. It is official. The 51st Southern Ladies Open Golf Tournament is going to be held at Apo Golf Club, and it is going to be on August 2022, 2014. So, ladies, start practicing! More details to come in my next article.

Apo Golf Elections. I would like to congratulate the new set of directors of Apo Golf Club, starting with Luis Jacinto, who was voted as President, Andy Ugdoracion, Juan Carlos Angeles, Mimi Siason, Joseph Ng, Leonides Latayan, Edwin Cayamanda, Gonzalo Barcia, Karloz Alba, and Ludwig Ledesma. I wish you all the best.

I was nominated as director also. And I did not even know about it at first. My cousin Binggoy Montemayor already informed me of his intention to run, and I offered my support. But days before the election, I found out that he was scheduled to go on a trip and won’t be able to attend the meeting. As a rule, one has to be present during the general membership meeting in order to run for office.

And then there were my lady teammates pushing me to accept the nomination.

So stressful. Honestly, I was not mentally and emotionally ready to run again. And if I were really interested in running, I would have worked on it months ago.

And then memories from my past as director came back to me, working as the House Committee chairperson, and at the same time, I was also the Corporate Secretary of Apo Golf Club, plus, there was the ladies chapter, plus, I handled projects such as the Southern Ladies Open Golf Tournament. And I remembered how stressful and tiring it was to be a director — working hard for the good of the club. No! No! I have graduated from it and I am retired. Right now, all I want to do is just play non-competitive golf. No more politics! I want a quiet relaxing life.

But then, during the general membership meeting, there were only 8 nominees present. I was number 9. And they needed 10. So, I pushed through with it. Why not? Right? A guaranteed win. But, more nominees appeared. Oh well. Hehe. So, the small amount of ballots I had with me, I gave to Mimi Siason to guarantee her a two-year term. Finally, another female director in the board. Congratulations Mimi!

By the way, the top five will have a two-year term and the lower five will have a one-year term. And next year, the members will elect 5 new directors. This will ensure a smooth turnover. And projects started by the previous administration will definitely be continued.

And then, there was the issue about the number of shares of Apo Golf. I am glad that Atty. Manny Nitorreda brought up the topic with SEC representative Francisco, and at the end of the day, Apo Golf is now back to having 500 shares instead of 250. Case closed. Yes!

I would like to congratulate outgoing President Gerry Romero-Salas for a job well done. He was able to turn things around for Apo Golf Club.

Change topic. The Open Championship (The British Open) is scheduled on July 17-20, 2014. And yes, Tiger Woods will join the tournament, although, many are skeptical about his chances of winning. He did get cut on his first tournament after his operation at the Quicken Loans National. But I am glad he is back.

Who knows, he might play very well, or he might get cut once again and might not show up anymore during the last two days. So, if I were you, I would watch the first two days of play. Think positive, Imee. Go Tiger! When I think of Tiger Woods these days, I am reminded of Anna Kournikova in tennis. She hardly wins, but people still want to cheer for her and the stadium is always full whenever she plays.

That’s it for this week. Happy Golfing!
