K-Food Express

- BY STELLA A. ESTREMERA

T HERE are more Korean restaurants cropping up it seems. The latest that caught our eye is the one at Palmetto Place, the DMCI condominium along Maa Road.

The place is K-Food Express Bibiseyo at the San Rafael Road side of Palmetto Place.

It was a fun night since there were six of us, meaning, we could try six different orders.

I got the beef bento. Miggy got the tuna bibimbap, Trisha got the spicy noodle soup, Deng, as always stayed on the safe side, the non-spicy noodle soup I can’t recall what, Maian got the pork ribs soup and the dumplings, while Imee got the pork bibimbap.

As expected, there were the appetizers composed of kimchi, pickled radish, some other radish stuff that looked like kimchi but is not hot, and a strange salad that was topped with peanut-tasting crumbs and sweet red sauce.

The kimchi disappeared first, next, the kimchi-looking radish. The strange salad didn’t get an enthusiastic response.

First came my bento box. It’s a big bento box and had a smaller portion of the appetizers. It was very good for the price. Then all the orders came on after the other.

The pork ribs soup is good but can be yummier with a little bit more tenderness to the meat. The bibimbaps are okay as well, and they are not in the large servings I often encounter in Korean restos.

Noticeable, however, are the overcooked sunnyside-up eggs on top of both bowls. They make the bibimbap look less appetizing than they should. I liked Trisha’s spicy noodle soup, also Deng’s, while the dumplings are on the tiny side.

All said, the servings are just enough to fill an empty tummy.

Since it’s a Korean restaurant, you can ask for a refill of your appetizers. I got a refill of the kimchi and kimchi-looking radish strips.
