Palace believes Donaire will regain boxing title
MANILA – Malacanang expressed belief on Sunday that four-division boxing champion Nonito Donaire, who lost to Jamaican Nicholas Walters, could bounce back.
Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. hailed Donaire for fighting well, although he lost to a “better fighter.”
“Knowing him to be a highly determined and resilient fighter, we are confident he will soon return to the comeback trail and regain a boxing championship,” he said in a text message to reporters.
Walters stopped Donaire in the sixth round, winning the WBA featherweight title on Saturday (Sunday Manila time) in California.
Walters improved his professional record to 250 while Donaire absorbed his third loss in 36 fights.
