Children’s march kicks off Friday

-

IN line with the celebration of the children’s month, various advocates will stage a children’s march against child trafficking and all forms of child abuses on Friday at Rizal Park.

Those joining the event are non-government organizations (NGO) namely, Talikala, Lawig Bubai and the Children against Child Trafficking.

Jeanette Ampog, executive director of Talikala, speaking on Monday’s edition of the Kapehan sa Dabaw, said that the event aims to call for protection of children against child trafficking and all forms of child abuses such as child labor and physical and sexual abuses.

Talikala, according to Ampog, had currently recorded 61 child trafficking cases in and the children rescued are undergoing counseling.

She said that these children were rescued from Samal, Mati, Cebu, Isulan, Tacurong, Panabo and Kapalong.

Ampog, however, said they are having a hard time monitoring child

abuses because only the children in the community can identify the child laborers.

Ampog also said they expect around 200 children to join the march together with their parents. A sportsfest for children will take place after the event.

“Amo pud panawagan na ang pag-protekta sa mga bata dili lang kutob October kung dili himuon siyag kada adlaw, dili lang na responsibilidad sa gobyerno ug sa mga NGO ang pag-protekta sa bata, kada isa sa atua dunay responsibilidad nga protektahan ang bata sa paghimulos ug pangabuso (We are calling out that protecting the children should not only be in October but this should be done every day, protecting the children is not only the responsibility of the government and the NGOs, each of us has the responsibility in protecting the children from child labor and abuse),” she said.
