Big fish in ‘Born to be Wild’ ’
THIS Sunday, Doc Ferds Recio and Doc Nielsen Donato encounter the big fish of Thailand and the Maldives in Born to be Wild on GMA7.
In Thailand’s man-made lakes, Doc Nielsen Donato is searching for a species of fish notorious for its strength. In its native South America, this fish is said to be strong enough to topple fishermen. The monstrous fish that can grow up to 155 feet in length is called the arapaima.
Doc Nielsen comes face-to-face with the giant fish and finds out why it is capable of wiping out smaller fish species. And while the existence of the arapaima in Thailand is not yet considered a threat by local residents, in the Philippines, a fish this size can easily wreak havoc in natural rivers and lakes.
Meanwhile, Doc Ferds Recio finds out more about the marine life of the Maldives. Unlike other countries that have birds or mammals as a national icon, the Maldives’ natural animal is a fish!
