Rooting rabidly for Woods is with solid basis

-

i wrote this before yesterday’s Round 1 start of the Masters.

Did Tiger Woods play well on Friday? Did he overcome his “chipping yips?” Did he even complete 18 holes?

The last time he was in a tournament, he quit on the 12th hole. That was on February 5, when Woods left the Farmers insurance Open’s first round in San Diego complaining of back stiffness.

as a result, he had only played a total of 47 holes for the 2015 season going to this year’s Masters, golf’s grandest stage.

Worst, he teed off in the year’s first major at Georgia’s magnificent augusta National mired at 111th from being No. 1 in the world for 683 consecutive weeks.

But utilizing almost 8 weeks to prepare for the tournament he had won four times, including 20-producing records in his 1997 triumph there, isn’t Woods more than ready to reclaim his throne?

Even as he last won his last and 14th major in the 2008 U.S. Open, i think Woods can still seriously shoot down tournaments, including majors.

i know he still has a lot of gas left in his tank. at age 39, Woods isn’t over-the-hill.

Look at Jack Nicklaus. at 46, Nicklaus prevailed in the 1986 Masters for an all-time best of 18 majors.

So, lend me your ears, fellers: if Woods is in the Top 5 going to today’s Round 2 of the Masters, i think he could contend for the crown.

With Top 5, i mean Woods should either be the leader or within 5 strokes off the lead, or even 6 shots behind.nd

By now, it should be obvious to you that i am a rabid Woods fan. Well, Tiger and i go a long way.

For one, i’ve seen him win his first title as a toddler in the San Diego World Juniors.

For another, i covered it actually in-between swigs of beer in the company of Tiger’s Dad at Presidio hills in old San Diego town. That would set the tone for my almost yearly joust with Tiger—drinking beer with the late Colonel (Tiger’s Dad) while the son was busy building the foundation of a legend.

Brick by brick in the last 20 years or so, Woods had astoundingly erected that monument that now has earned him a total of $1.3 billion—the most by anyone in the last 200 or so years since the game was invented in Scotland.

and yet, he keeps on plodding on and on and on. Despite having undergone four knee and back surgeries already.
