Quirino Grandstand Sept. 15 date with Rody cancelled

- By Karina V. Cañedo

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte’s scheduled Federalism engagement at Quirino Grandstand on September 15 was cancelled, a spokesperson said.

Mayor Duterte’s spokesperson Peter Tiu Laviña, in his Facebook post, apologized to all groups concerned.

“Apology to all groups concerned. Mayor Rody Duterte has cancelled his trip to Metro Manila on September 14-16. In effect, all the previously scheduled activities to spread his advocacy on Federalism are affected,” Laviña said.

When sought out to comment, Laviña only said to check his Facebook.

He said that these scheduled activities involved Divisoria with traders and vendors, Manila Overseas Press Club with mass media, Quirino Grandstand with taxi and jeepney drivers, Dagatdagatan, Caloocan with urban poor sector, Campus Tour in Mandaluyong with students and teachers.

Laviña in his post last September 9, 2015 detailed Duterte’s schedule to meet and induct officers of taxi and jeepney drivers at Qurino Grandstand and he said that all other sectors and groups may wish to attend.

Laviña, in his recent post, quoted Duterte’s statement saying that nothing is final yet in his interview with Aksyon TV happy hour last Thursday afternoon.

“At least as of now, mahirap magsalita ng tapos sa mundong ito,” Duterte said.

The n5e.interaksyon. com’s live streaming mo-

bile views reached 22,764,212 views and 184,000 likes during the interview.

This is a sudden turn of the tide since Duterte, in a less than 10-minute media interview last Monday, said that he will retire in his last term.

Despite that many supporters still are not giving up.

Based on reports, his supporters are set to hold a rally at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on September 26 as their last ditch of effort to convince the mayor to run in next year’s election.

The event was dubbed as Million People’s call where organizers aim to gather at least one million supporters starting at 2 pm onwards.

The gathering was earlier scheduled on September 15 but was later moved to September 26.
