Raps filed vs Australian with disassembled handgun
Police filed charges against an Australian national who was caught trying to sneak in a disassembled firearm through the security scanner at F. Bangoy International Airport in Davao City last Thursday.
Facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulation Act) is Ian Maxwell Parker, 58, an Australian national who claimed that the disassembled firearm found in his possession is part of his antique collection.
Davao City Police Office spokesperson Senior Inspector Milgrace Driz
said via text message that aside from filing the case, they had also done profiling to determine whether the suspect has involvement in any crime or if he is part of a group. Driz also added that they will also coordinate with the Bureau of Immigration to determine the foreigner’s status.
Sun.Star Davao reported yesterday that Maxwell was bound for Manila when he was arrested after the Initial Security Screening Checkpoint’s X-ray machine revealed a concealed firearm in his luggage.
The disassembled .380 caliber pistol was allegedly scattered inside the suspect’s luggage which was then confiscated by airport security officer Lutz Joey S. Sanchez and Senior Police Officer 2 Arnel Cain. Maxwell reportedly failed to present any document allowing him to possess and carry the firearm.
Maxwell is currently detained at the Sasa police station while the case is currently being resolved by Prosecutor Myla Comendador-Lao.
