Academe hopeful BBL will be passed

-

THE academe sector is still hopeful that the Bangsamoro Basic Law will be passed within President Benigno Aquino III’s term, an officer said.

Executive Director Al Qalam Institute for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia of the Ateneo de Davao University Mussolini Sinsuat Lidasan said in a media interview after the I-speak media forum said that BBL will be passed despite Mamasapano incident.

“We are still confident that the BBL will pass even with or without the Mamasapano. It is because in the new version of Marcos, we see the oppor-

tunity of incorporating Islamic finance within the law,” Lisadan said.

During the I-Speak forum, Lidasan endorsed Islamic banking and finance which is a conduct of banking in consonance with Shariah principles.

“Hopefully if ma-approve, BBL and the Bangsamoro parliament is the one that will initiate the implementing rules and regulations of the Shariah,” Lisadan said.

He said that the new BBL covers Shariah law focusing on maintaining the PD 1083 or the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines.

“Yung family relations medyo ma-expand siya. Maging strict na tayo sa certain practices in islam divorce acts of polygamy,” Lisadan said.

He said they hope that the draft from the upper and lower house will be finished before September ends.

“Kung hindi, we’ll have to lobby it with the next administration,” Lisadan said.
