Ateneo tops Dacs chess, football
ATENEO de Davao University (Addu) dominated the chess and football events of the just-concluded 2015 Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) Meet held in separate venues in Davao City.
Addu clinched the grade school boys and girls and High School girls chess team titles at the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) Bajada campus. Addu’s David Patrick Belisario and Jason Troy Lareza tallied a total of 13 points to beat St. Peter College of Toril (10.0) and Assumption College of Davao (9.0) for the grade school boys team crown.
Belisario went on to pocket the individual gold medal by scoring perfect seven points while six-pointers Joshua Xavier Caberos of SPCT and Lareza placed second and third, respectively.
In the distaff side, Addu bets Elena Dorothy Fernandez and Kathleen Joyce Laforteza combined for 10 points, outclassing Stella Maris Academy of Davao (Smad) with 9.5 points and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) with eight points.
Smad’s Blanche Ellyz Bongato also swept all her seven games to claim the grade school girls individual gold over Fernandez (6.0) and Jasmine Amoncio of HCDC (5.0).
Marielle Miranda and Lileanna Marie Amila lifted Addu to ax the High School girls team title by edging fellow 10.5 scorer Our Lady of Fatima’s Michaella Jilian Canas and Angela Samson via superior tiebreaks. HCDC was third with 9.5 points. Canas went on to win the individual gold as she earned 6.5 points.
In High School boys, Smad’s Francis Xavier Guimalan and Josh Bryan Ramos joined forces for the team gold over HCDC (10.5) and Olfa (9.5). Guimalan (6.5) emerged individual champion while Addu’s Joshua Noel Tiagan and HCDC’s Niel Sebastian Enoc each made 5.5 points to grab the next two spots.
In football, Addu crushed Philippine Women’s College of Davao, 10-0, to secure the secondary championship title while Addu’s elementary football team routed St. Paul College, 11-0, for the crown.
Top performers will represent Dacs to the Davao City Athletic Association (Dcaa) Meet 2015.
