-

FIrST, a reminder, the Jun Canedo Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for tomorrow (October 24), and it is at rancho Palos Verdes Golf & Country Club. registration fee is P2,500. For more inquiries, call Philip Daytic at 09228637003 and King rivas at 09209546842.

Next, I will promote the upcoming ICTSI Mindanao Junior Golf Open. It is going to be on October 26-27, 2015 at Apo Golf & Country Club. And then on October 28-30, 2015, it will be on rancho Palos Verdes Golf & Country Club. It is open to junior golfers aged six to 17 years old. Golf clubs may adopt non-member junior golfers provided an endorsement letter is presented to the organizer.

How much to join? P2,500 per player. But if you are a member of Apo Golf and/or a member of rancho Palos Verdes, the fee is P1,500.

It is a 54-hole competition and they will apply the Molave points system. There is a team competition as well. How cute! Team of four players, three to count. Good luck kids!

Change topic. The 2015 Presidents Cup –the battle between the US Team and the International Team, was held last October 6– 11, 2015 at Songdo IBD, Incheon City, South Korea. Which team won?— Team USA.

Imagine the pressure. US Team Captain Jay Haas picked two players to be in his team. One was Phil Mickelson, and the other, his son, Bill Haas. Before the final match, Bill Haas halved his match and lost his other match. Not good scores at all. I am sure there were negative comments as to why he picked his son to be part of the US Team. Plus, on the final day, Bill Haas’ match was the final match, and it was a tie, 14.5 points for Team USA and 14.5 points for the International team.

What a relief to see Bill Haas pull through with a win on the final match of the competition. I can just imagine how nervous Capt. Jay Haas was on the final day. Final score, 15.5 for Team USA, and 14.5 for the International Team. Whew!

Our Aussie-Pinoy Jason Day did not perform well. Out of five matches, he halved one and lost four. Ouch! The only game he halved was with his partnership with Adam Scott against Phil Mickelson and Zach Johnson, and it was the only match that Phil Mickelson halved.

Change topic. One month to go. What many of our local pros are looking forward to and practicing for—it is the $1 Million resorts World Manila Masters and it is scheduled on November 19-22, 2015 at Manila Southwoods. Last year’s winner was Mardan Mamat. And the year before that, it was Liang Wen-chong of China who won via playoff.

This tournament is part of the Asian Tour. Among all the tournaments held in this country, this tournament gives out the highest prize money for the winner. How much? $180,000 or roughly, P8.36 million pesos! So, mga Dabawenyo pros who are qualified to join, please keep on practicing! Good luck to all of you!
