IT’S all systems go for the 2nd Ateneo de Davao University monthly chess team tournament set on Nov. 14.

This was bared yesterday by AdDU special projects director Oscar John Nuñez during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex events center of SM City Davao.

He said teams competing in the High School division are Ateneo, St. Peter College of Toril, Sped Bangkal and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC).

In the elementary category, Ateneo will also vie for the title against SPCT, Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Elementary School and Magallanes Elementary School.

Nuñez said, “This is just an invitational tournament. With our limited resources, we can only accommodate four to five teams in each division. Parents of our varsity players are sponsoring the food so we don’t want to burden them that’s why we limit the teams.”

He said each team will be composed of four board players.

“This is for the exposure of the players and to also reach out to schools so they will have a regular monthly chess tournament to look forward to,” he said.

He added that they also organized a college rapid chess team tournament last Sept. 26 with the University of Mindanao sweeping the men’s and women’s team titles.

Nuñez also said the college chessfest had a sponsor who shouldered the prizes of the winners.
