Davao Solon cites EO
BAYAN Muna Representative Carlos Isagani Zarate welcomes the Executive order on Freedom of Information (FOI) which was recently signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a Facebook post, Zarate expressed his feeling towards the new development.
“This EO is a welcome development that [will hopefully] hasten the passage of House Bill 334(FOI
bill) in Congress. Transparency in government transaction is an important tool to curb corruption in the government” Zarate said.
The copy of the EO was ceremoniously given by Justice Secretary Salvador Medialdea, to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar yesterday at the Premiere Guest House in Malacañan Palace.
Among those who witnessed the ceremonial turn over are Malou Mangahas, Right Now Coalition Convenor Eirene Aquila; Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas Chairman Herman Z. Basbaño, Manila Broadcasting Company’s Ruperto S. Nicdao, Jr., and World Bank Senior Operations Officer Hanif Rahemtulla, according to the report from the Presidential Communications Office’s Facebook page.
Senate Chairman on Ways and Means Juan Edgardo Angara and Zarate, who were both present in the event, reportedly vowed to work for the passage of the FOI bill in the House of Senate and Congress.
Angara also expressed optimism that both houses will finally pass the FOI law especially with the support of the President. (KVC)
