80 join KBP Seminar and Examination
COMPOSTELA Valley province — More than 80 participants coming from the provincial and municipal government, national agencies, and the media attended the seminar and examination of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) conducted on August 20 at the Social Hall, Capitol, Nabunturan town here.
The activity is spearheaded by the provincial government through the Information Dissemination Section, under Information Officer Fe Maestre, in partnership with the KBP.
“This activity could also help government employees in terms of improving their profession specially htose engaged into radio broadcasting,” said Executive Assistant Hermogenes Maning as he delivers the message in behalf of Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy. “We are expected to be experts as the forefront in serving the public.”
With information and communication as an important tool in good governance, some LGUs have their own block time radio program with government employees sitting either as the anchorman/ broadcaster or as a radio program guest.
“We need to professionalize and equip them with the necessary skills as part of their capacitybuilding, hence, this ac tivity. As the saying goes, ‘Development is about change, and change cannot occur without communication’,” said Information Officer Fe Maestre.
The morning activity covers the discussion seminar delivered by the KBP Regional Chairman Roy T. Geonzon emphasizing the basic principles that evolve in the Broadcast Code of the Philippines. Executive Assistant Alfonso Tabas Jr. also gives input on radio broadcasting, sharing his experiences as a radio broadcaster for 24 years.
In the afternoon, the examination proper was facilitated by the KBP Performance Officer-Central Office, Virginia Velasco, who commended the LGU’s initiative. “Congratulations Gov. Tyron Uy. This is a very good project and I hope you can continue on as this is a way to professionalize those who are on air,’ she said. According to Velasco, the exam results will be released after a month after which passers will now apply for accreditation upon recommendation of their respective radio stations where they are broadcasting.
