- By Ace June Rell S. Perez

THE regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has established a total of 10 Negosyo Centers in the region as of August 16, 2016.

DTI-11 said four of these centers were launched this year.

These are located in San Isidro, Davao Oriental (launched April 20); Gov. Generoso, Davao Oriental (launched June 27); Malita, Davao Occidental (launched July 13), and Provincial DTI Office, Davao del Sur (launched August 16).

In 2015, a total of six centers were established, two for Davao Oriental (Mati and Cateel) and one each for Davao City, Davao del Sur (Digos), Davao del Norte (Tagum), and Compostela Valley (Nabunturan).

Marilou D. Laguting, DTI-11 chief of staff said at the sideline of Wednesday’s Habi at Kape in Abreeza Ayala Mall, Davao City, exactly 11 more Negosyo Centers are still up to be launched within this year.

The remaining 11 centers will be installed in Compostela, Compostela Valley (Comval); Monkayo, Comval; Baganga, Davao Oriental; Tagum City, Davao del Norte; Padada, Davao del Sur; Lupon, Davao Oriental; Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur; Pantukan, Comval; Panabo, Davao del Norte; and Igacos, Davao del Norte.

While for Toril, Davao City, the center is up for launching on September 8.

Laguting said that the trade and industry department is targeting to establish a total of 49 Negosyo Centers in the region by the end of 2017.

Maria Belenda Q. Ambi, DTI regional director, in a previous interview said, the establishment of the centers is one of the landmark programs of DTI providing assistance and facilitation to SMEs in terms of business registration, trainings, consultations, and information packages.

DTI has allocated some P12 million budget for the Negosyo Centers. It will be poured in the operations for the existing and to-belaunched centers.

For Davao City, the first negosyo center was launched last July 2015 in Davao City Investment and Promotions Center (DCIPC) office in Magsaysay Park Complex.

The establishment of the negosyo center is pursuant to Executive Order 12, series of 2015, or An Order on the Establishment and Management of a Negosyo Center in Davao City signed by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on May 3.

This is in support also to Republic Act 10644, or An Act Promoting Job Generation and Inclusive Growth through the Development of the MSMEs or the Go Negosyo Act, authored by Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV.
