Let's get baduy
The season-starter Aboitiz Party
IT IS alright to be “baduy” (off-fashioned) sometimes if you are in an event wherein “kabaduyan” is required.
This is the unique atmosphere that welcomed different Mindanao based media workers in this year’s edition of the Aboitiz Media Party which is a yearly event since 2008.
With the theme “Let’s get Baduy” the entrance of the photobooth area was designed with flower bedecked wallpapers commonly bought on the sidewalk of public markets.
Guests took their wacky shots, and baduy shots with the wig, crown and other props.
Inside the venue a trisikad, yes a trisikad, waited to take guests to and from the stage for photo opportunities, and fun.
The guests were welcomed by Jaime J. Aboitiz,
the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Aboitiz Power and Corp. Distribution who gave a message about the progress and plans of their company and at the same time thanked the media who were supportive of their advocacies and programs.
The games followed with the guests grouped according to their tables. I was grouped with Tropang Wasak where we had Sir Jimmy as our teammate.
Other team includes, Tropang Chararat, Tropang Sukarap, Tropang Bangag, and Tropang Bangenge, among others.
The first batch played "Hirap-spellingin, where the two teams were given a word and would earn points if the letter of the chosen word was wrongly given by a group.
The second batch had "Pelikulanguage" where the players will have to give the exact translation of the given English title of a movie to Bisaya or Tagalog.
Mukhang Pera had the third batch guessing the exact amount of the bills shown on screen.
The Team Wasak was in the last batch competing with another in a “Family Feud” game. My answer of “kwek-kwek” led us to victory.
Victors of the elimination round went for another level of games.
“Acting mo show mo” was a “paint me a picture game” where the participant gets to act and stand still and portray the scenario.
I got the role of the lechon, in the scenario of the Fiesta sa Nayon, which I could say a very challenging role indeed, but was worth it as we’ve won.
Another round of elimination was done with the three remaining teams to fight for the championship and this is the “Kiat jud day, kiat jud bai!” which forced the participants to give their all at twerking or should I also say jumping moves to lose all the lemons stuffed inside tissue boxes that were tied to their butts in the shortest possible time.
The team Chararat won this round and hence became our contender for the final round, the “Pak Ganern” challenge.
In the end, Tropang Chararat got the prize of P21,000, The Tropang Wasak got P15,000 while The Tropang Bangag, won third with P10,000.
Aside from the fun and games was the raffle where I got the grand prize of P10,000.
The Baduy ka Bai or baduy get up was given to Fred Suguran, and Baduy ka girl award was given to Sheryl Macale, a participant from Cagayan.
The Pak na Pak award given to the participant who gave his all went to Jesse Pizarro Boga of Mindanao Times.
It was indeed a wacky, and fun night, a rare night were media people from Mindanao gathered and mingled with each other.
