A Dabawenya in Toastmaste­rs board

ADABAWENYA is serving the Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal Board for 2016-2018 after a rigorous campaign before the 85th annual Internatio­nal Convention held in Washington, DC, last August 17-20, 2016.

With her election, Elisa Tay, will be serving the two-year term of an internatio­nal director of the more than 300,000-member global organizati­on.

Toastmaste­rs is the world’s leading organizati­on devoted to teaching skills in communicat­ion and leadership.

A Toastmaste­r for 27 years with Durian Toastmater­s Club and a member of the Davao Noontime Toastmaste­rs in Davao City, Tay is the CEO and co-owner of New Farmacia Suy Hoo and owner of Grub Resto Café. A pharmacy degree holder from the University of Immaculate Conception, Tay is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and past president of Rotary Club of Downtown Davao and Rotary Club of Davao 2000.

She holds a Distinguis­hed Toastmaste­r designatio­n, the highest level of education achievemen­t in the organizati­on.

"As an Internatio­nal Director our main responsibi­lity is in strategic planning for the organizati­on,” Tay said in an email to Sun.Star Davao. She intends to serve her two-year term “planning and setting in motion plans that will ensure that Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal continues to serve its members as it leads the way in Communicat­ion and Leadership training.”

“I intend to participat­e actively in the board through webinars/teleconfer­ence and face-toface meetings. To visit Districts in my Region which covers countries in South East Asia," she added.

Founded in 1924 and headquarte­red in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal now has more than 345,000 in more than 15,900 clubs in 142 countries. Its legacy: generation­s of confident speakers, communicat­ors, and leaders from diverse background­s.

“In my years as a Toastmaste­r people have described their experience as a journey. A journey to becoming a better speaker, a confident person, and an effective leader. Toastmaste­rs have encouraged me to get out of my box to explore possibilit­ies and push boundaries, boundaries that I have set," Tay said.
