A NEW budget hotel and inn is set to open this month to cater the increasing tourists visiting Davao City.

Strategically located in the heart of the city at Walk in Alley, C. Bangoy St. (Ponciano Reyes Street in front of Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Central Elementary School), Davao City, “Casa Katreenas” is perfect for backpackers and visitors (for business and leisure) on a budget.

“We want Casa Katreenas to be positioned as one of the Davao hotels that offer visitors more than the worth of their money, the experience of staying here like home. Our interiors and services are conceptualized with an intention to generate happiness and positive

vibes to the customers,” Gloria D. Cuaresma, owner of Casa Katreenas said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao. The budget hotel will have its soft opening on October 18 while the grand launching is set on November 8.

The three-storey hotel has a total of 16 rooms with three types of accommodation: Dormitory (P198 per night, minimum of four persons), Double (P378/12 hrs), and Suite room (P1,800/night). It also offers a function room that can accommodate from 60 to 80 participants (P650/hour minimum of three hours).

All rooms has Wi-Fi and TV while the suite room has hot shower, mini refrigerator and an intercom.

“With the opening of this hotel, we give the Davao market and visitors more option on where to stay. We got good location, good price and good vibes,” she said.

This Oct. 18 until Nov. 17, Casa Katreenas offers a 20 percent discount on all rooms for all guests checking in.

Cuaresma, who also runs Blugre, a homegrown coffee shop said that they have decided to enter the hotel and hospitality industry because of the promising potentials of the city in tourism and business.

“Since we have this idle property we've decided to turn it to a productive one, since Davao has influx of visitors since our former mayor (Rodrigo Duterte) became the President. I am excited to be part of this industry,” she said.

She added that despite the number of hotel players in the city, availability of rooms remain an issue.

Based on the Department of Tourism 11 (DOT 11) data, tourist arrivals in Davao Region reached a total of 714,887 for the first quarter (Q1) of this year (January to March), a hike of 81 percent as compared to 395,145 during the same period in 2015.

Of the figure, domestic travelers totaled 608,118, a 67 percent increase as compared to 2015’s Q1 data at 363,806, while overseas or “Balikbayan” posted some 30 percent increase at 4,160 as against last year’s 3,181 arrivals.

Most of the tourists were reported in Davao City (64 percent), followed by Davao Oriental (13 percent), Davao del Norte (11 percent), Compostela Valley (11 percent) and Davao del Sur (1 percent).
