DCC chessers rule Daprisa Games
MULTI-TITLED Irish Yngayo along with two other Davao Central College (DCC) of Toril bets outclassed their respective rivals to clinch titles in the recently-concluded Daprisa Games 2016 chess competition at the YMCA covered gym along E. Jacinto Extension in Davao City.
Top-seed Yngayo scored perfect five points in High School girls event while her older sister Lorraine also of DCC made four points to place second and Joanne Micaela Ancheta of St. Patrick Math-Sci School (SPMSS) was third with three points in the 12-player class.
Yngayo defeated Lorraine as well as Alleah Luntayaan of International College of St. Ignatius, Dorothy Remolar of Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School
and SPMSS players Elaine Mae Tibayan and Ancheta.
DCC's Christian Anjo Dumugho and Jan Chelsea Mendoza ruled the grade school boys and girls events, respectively. Both of them also swept all their five matches.
Dumugho prevailed over next two placers Christfel Sugarol of Doña Pilar Learning Center Foundation and Dustin Blake Padernal of SPMSS who each tallied four points.
Dumugho's victims were Ralph Lauren Man- gubat of St. Mary's Initial Learning Experience (Smile), Mario Matthew Mangahas, DPLCF's Sugarol and Joseph Erl Pol and Jude Raphael Manantan of Davao Christian Learning Center. The division attracted 20 woodpushers.
Mendoza, for her part, bested Nathalie Suter of DPLCF (4.0) and Christene Glee Maghuyop of Brokenshire College of Toril (3.5).
Mendoza subdued opponents Rose Ann Aguilar in the final fifth round after eking out wins over Nathalie Suter of DLPCF, Stephanie Barriga of Smile, Maria Yasmine Therese Manantan of DCLC and Hanney Hong of Philippine Academy of Sakya in earlier rounds.
In High School boys, Precious International School of Davao (PISD) entry Ivan Miguel Pangan edged fellow 4.5 scorer SPMSS' Matt Manuel Uy via superior tiebreaks capture the championship as the latter settled for the runner-up honors. DCC's James Kurt Cruzat earned 3.5 points for the third spot in the chessfest sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).
Pangan beat RJ Boy Jorbina of PNJKIS, Cruzat, Jyg Dominic Masanegra of SPMSS and Troy James Almen of Christian Colleges of Southeast Asia then drew with Uy in the third round.
