SP wants to fast-track DPWH’s road repairs

-

THE Davao City Council is looking for ways on how it can help the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fast-track the completion of road projects before the Christmas season starts.

Committee on ethics and good government chair councilor Jesus Melchor Quitain Jr. earlier invited the DPWHDavao District officials in Tuesday’s 14th regular session to update them on the status of the road constructions all over the city.

DPWH-Davao District construction head Engr. Milagros Delos Reyes admitted that the office has difficulty in finishing its projects on time due to existing drainage and pipelines of the Davao City Water District (DCWD) and the PLDT.

Delos Reyes said they have encountered several problems such as putting up a new line for drainage in the inner part of the road as the outer part of the road is already been occupied by the DCWD and utilities.

“We are having a hard time constructing manholes like in Bankerohan (near the McDonalds) because there are many pipelines of PLDT and DCWD although the utilities are frequently coordinating with the DPWH,” Delos Reyes said.

Aside from the existing drainage and pipelines, Delos Reyes also attributed the delays in the completion of the project due to the rainy season. She said their personnel only works at 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. to avoid traffic congestion in the morning.

“The working hours has lessened. Lately, almost every night is raining. Our personnel can only work as far as after the rain [and thunderstorm]. There were also times that they cannot work due to the continuous heavy rain,” she added.

She said they also have three manholes to construct, one in Bankerohan; second, at the intersection of the San Pedro, and the other at the intersection of Davao Doctors Hospital.

Committee on public works and highways chair councilor Jesus Joseph Zozobrado, meanwhile, pointed out the need for DPWH to coordinate with other agencies and companies with regards road repairs. ICT (For full story visit www.sunstar.com.ph/ davao/)
