City's Batang Pinoy elims set this month
DAVAO City's eliminations of the Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships will be held this month with only few weeks before the tournament gets going on Nov. 27 to Dec. 2 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer in-charge Michael "Mikey" Denton Aportadera, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said they are still waiting for the Philippine Sports Commission's technical guidelines on other events to proceed with the try-outs.
He said judo and archery already have guidelines, adding that they will inform all regional and city heads of different national sports association (NSAs) once they receive communication from the PSC. He also bared that the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center and Ateneo de Davao University as among possible venues for the eliminations.
"The good thing is that all the NSAs are working now in unity," he said, pertaining to sports with two or more clubs or organizations.
Aportadera explained that they focused first on complying with Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio's directive to have a unified representation of athletes, thus, he called for a consultative meeting recently to hear sentiments and issues of sports officials.
The Batang Pinoy is open to athletes 17 years old and below. It will also feature arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, 3-on3 basketball, boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, among others.
