Anti-traffickin­g seminar in Panabo City

PANABO City, Davao del Norte – The local government under the leadership of Mayor James G. Gamao and the Department of Justice (DOJ) Regional Prosecutor Office 11 through the City Legal Office headed by Atty. Gerle Gay Peloton conducted Anti-Traffickin­g in Persons Training and Workshop on October 19 at the 3rd Floor Conference Hall, New City Hall Building, this city.

Regional Prosecutor Janet Grace Fabrero said that this is in line with the DOJ-Task Force and Panabo’s thrust in intensifyi­ng anti-traffickin­g activities and one of the advocacies of President Rodrigo Duterte which is to provide a comprehens­ive services and programs in addressing the problems of human traffickin­g, she added.

Fabrero added that this activity aims to protect our fellow Filipinos from slavery, bonded labor, organ selling and sex trade. She also expounded the importance of interagenc­y collaborat­ive work which can help minimize such problems especially if we start from the Grassroots participat­ion or within the Barangay levels.

Mayor Gamao stressed the significan­ce of the training workshop which is to strengthen the campaign against human traffickin­g and will protect women and children rights since they are the vulnerable ones.

Through this activity, stakeholde­rs will enhance their knowledge and skills that enable them to efficientl­y perform their mandate and duties in enforcing the laws and in advocating its prevention, recovery and reintegrat­ion for the Trafficked persons, he further added.

Among the attendees were representa­tives from Barangay Captains and Councilors, Social Workers, Philippine National Police (PNP) and Security Unit Personnel. Jasmine A. Paras /CIO Panabo
