DLPC's Project BEST kicks off anew
WITH Davao Light & Power Co.'s distribution lines stretching towards the country side, economic viability is expected to improve in those areas. This increasing demand for electricity also demands people who are fully equipped with electrical ability. Thus, making way for Davao Light to initiate the Project Basic Electrician Skills Training or BEST in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or Tesda Region 11.
The community-based skills training started another batch last October 11, 2016 where 20 beneficiaries, mostly out-of-school-youth and residents of Los Amigos relocation, were entitled to join. With the help of the Tesda, they will develop and enhance their knowledge and skills in electrical installation and maintenance.
At the end of Project BEST, trainees will be well-equipped with new skills that will create new opportunities for them resulting to additional income.
“The more accredited electricians we have in rural places, the easier it is for the community to tap them for their electrical needs. In this manner, we also dedicate this training for the benefit of the far-flung areas as well as provide livelihood as electricians especially to the out of school youth,” said Fermin Edillon, Davao Light Community Relations Manager.
Davao Light's Project Best has already produced 56 Tesda certified electricians. Davao Light is looking forward to continuously help produce more electricians in the rural areas to provide opportunity for livelihood and help the community it serves.
