City's Davraa chess team complete
EIGHT woodpushers will represent Davao City to the 2017 Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet after clinching gold and silver medals in the Davao City Athletic Assoction (Dcaa) Meet 2016 standard chess competition that came to a close at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) Main Library recently.
Unit 8's Jan Chelsie Mendoza, Unit 6's David Patrick Belisario and Queen Peralta and Unit 5's Bhing Joel Gimony annexed golds while Kurt John Placencia of Unit 1, Wesley Jovan Magbanua of Unit 4, Jasmine Rei Amoncio and Blanche Ellyze Bongato of Unit 6 salvaged silvers.
Mendoza of Davao Central Collge (DCC) prevailed over fellow four-pointers Amoncio of Holy Cross College of Davao (HCDC), and Michaela Sumaylo of Ramon F. Magsaysay Elementary School (RFMES) via superior tiebreaks to rule the elementary girls event.
Belisario of Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) topped the elementary boys class with 4.5 points, besting Magbanua of Los Amigos Elementary School (4.0) and Charo Gil Mendoza (3.0).
Peralta of HCDC, for her part, scored perfect five points to govern the secondary girls category over Bongato of Stella Maris Academy (Smad) (4.0) and Rhobie Shayne Benogsodan of Davao Wisdom Academy (DWA) (3.5).
Gimony of Jose Maria College (JMC) outclassed fellow four-pointers Placencia of DCNHS and Jude Nathaniel Enoc of HCDC with better tiebreaks in secondary boys.
Tournament manager Ariel Atondav in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said they will pick the first and second placers in every category for the Davraa Meet.
Belisario, in a separate interview, said he hopes to win the Davraa gold since he only placed second in last year's ed ti on, adding :" Ma ha ba-ha ba pa naman po yung time to prepare for the regional meet, so we still have a lot of time to prepare with my coach Alex."
