History unfolds for CVSC’s first president
Compostela Valley State College (CVSC) witnessed a momentous event as it held the investiture of Dr. Chirstie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, the first president of the foremost state-run tertiary academic institution in the province, at the Compostela Municipal Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Members of the CVSC Board of Trustees (BOT), faculty and staff from the four campuses of the state college and students, as well as political bigwigs in the ComVal province were all present to congratulate Dr. Ganiera who assumed office last June 9, 2016.
Previously, the president of Kapalong College of Agriculture, Science and Technology (KCAST), the only locally-funded college in Mindanao to be accredited Level I by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Dr. Ganiera will look to do the same and more in CVSC which was just established in 2013.
BOT members who were present during the event were National Economic Development Au- thority 11 (NEDA-11) Assistant Regional Director Priscilla R. Sonido who came on behalf of NEDA-11 Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim, Joseph Nolan H. Jacinto who represented House of Representatives (HOR) Chair on Higher and Technical Education Ann K. Hofer, Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Executive Director Dr. Herbert Glenn P. Reyes who represented PASUC President Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras, Department of Science and Technology 11 (DOST-11) Regional Director Anthony C. Sales, 1st District Representative of Compostela Valley Maria Carmen S. Zamora, CVSC Faculty Federation President Lilybeth M. Matunhay, CVSC Non-Teaching Staff Association President Merla D. Getubig, Private Sector Representative Almalyn N. Costelo, and CVSC Student Federation President Weneberth L. Terez.
Meanwhile, CHED Chair and BOT Chairperson Patricia B. Licuanan, represented by Ched 11 Regional Director Dr. Raul C. Alvarez, officially proclaimed Dr. Ganiera as the maiden president of CVSC, which signaled the conclusion of the investiture rites.
ComVal Governor Jayvee Tyron L. Uy also graced the affair and stressed his confidence in the administration of Pres. Ganiera.
“I expect CVSC to grow to a population of 8,000 students ten years from now. While we grow and take into fold the Comvaleño youth to mold, this shall always be paramount and shall not be compromised – quality education. For I only intend to provide the best college education to Comvalenos . Thus, this would entail first and foremost quality learning environment and academic personnel – which we should commit to obtain”, said newlyappointed CVSC president Dr. Ganiera during her speech.
