THE City Social Services and Development Office said that status of the lives of areas recently affected by the recent shootout between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and rebels in Calinan and Paquibato area has gone back to normal.

“More or less back to normal, and wala na jud ingon na nagstay sila sa evacuation sites. Nianha lang sila atong 16, 17 ug 18 sa gabii. So far ang taga Lacson wala na nagbaba, kadto rang 16 and 17 (Life there is back to normal, people are no longer staying in evacuation centers. Residents only did from February 16-18. Those from Lacson only evacuated from 16-17),” said CSSDO Head Maria Luisa T. Bermudo.

The CSSDO gave food assistance to 700 families from Lamanan and 120 families from Lacson, Calinan, Davao City.

These residents were advised by the military to temporarily sleep in the barangay centers from Thursday to Saturday due to the ongoing firefight.

It was reported that two soldiers were killed and wounded after a land mine exploded along the boundary of Barangay Lacson and Barangay Lamanan.

A shootout ensued, killing three communist rebels.

Bermudo said the residents during those nights slept in the gym, school sites, and the house of their close relatives and neighbors in sitio proper.

A stress debriefing was also done by CSSDO Calinan District last February 17 in gyms where the children stayed.

Bermudo said that last Saturday, the team from CSSDO also gave food as-

sistance to Malabog, Paquibato District.

“Ang last nato Saturday, pero in monitoring lang gihapon ta because we don’t know anytime mag-ano jud ang ano we are just ready for our food relief assistance (The food assistance given in the Paquibato will be the last batch but we are still monitoring the situation because an incident can happen anytime so our food relief assistance is always ready),” she said.
