Guerrilla Filmathon scheduled for Araw

-

NOW in its fourth year, the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation, Inc. (MFTDFI) in coordination with the Davao City Tourism encourage the filmmakers nationwide to join the Guerrilla Filmathon that is aimed to promote film tourism here in Davao City.

In line with the city’s celebration of 80th Araw ng Dabaw, race director and MFTDFI chairman and executive director Dax Cañedo said in yes- terday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao the event will be held on March 11 and 12.

Unlike the usual filmmaking competition, he said the Guerilla Filmathon will involve 10 teams composed of three including the director and the crew that will produce short films in only 24 hours and will face adventure race-style challenges and obstacles, and mandatory shooting locations around Davao City.

Their short films, which will run from 3 to 10-minute, will evolve on theme of the Davao tourism campaign “Davao: Life is here!” wherein the films should “instill pride of Davao and pride in being Dabawenyos.”

“We have mandatory shooting locations where they have to shoot in those locations and we’re hoping to promote Davao through these films,” he said.

With this, they are poised that the landmark of the city where the filmmakers are required to shoot will be exposed not only in the country but also in abroad which will spark interest and give other filmmakers an idea that Davao City could also be an ideal shooting location.

Also, their objective for staging this event is to develop the filmmaking here in Davao and inspire those aspirants to have an avenue to enhance their craft.

Interested teams must submit a registration form that could be downloaded in their Facebook page together with their sample works on or before February 27, 2017 at City Tourism Operations Office or via email at guerrillafilmathon@outlook.com.

Cañedo said that they are also encouraging filmmakers outside the city to join. The qualified teams for the will be announced on March 3, 2017.

The winners will receive P50,000 for Best Araw ng Dabaw Film 50,000 while the race winners for the first place (20,000 plus a trophy), second place (17,000 plus a trophy), third Place (15,000 plus a trophy) and the seven finishers will get a consolation prize of 10,000 each. JCR
