SouthCot’s envi program turns 10 years
KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – South Cotabato’s Clean and Green Program that honors the intiatives of local government units on solid waste management turns 10 years this year.
In celebration of this feat, the provincial government here has made several changes to the annual Search for Clean and Green LGUs, according to Aurora Andrea de Pedro, OIC provincial director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Most salient of these upgrades, de Pedro said, is the requirement for local government to prepare a video package “in which the LGUs will present the impact of the Clean and Green Program in their locality in the last 10 years.”
“The audio-visual presentation will constitute 10% of the total score,” De Pedro said.
Also, both initial and final evaluations will be unannounced. In the past, LGUs were informed of a specific date when the evaluation team would visit the area for the first assessment, which comprises 40% of the total score.
De Pedro revealed futher that while the provincial government retained the financial incentives of the Top 3 Clean and Green LGUs at P800,000, P500,000 and P300,000 respectively, the prizes for the 4th, 5th and 6th placers will be increased to P180,000, P100,000 and P80,000.
Financial support to the non-winning LGUs will also been raised to P40, 000, she added. Besides the major prizes LGUs will also vie for special awards with corresponding prizes, namely: Best Public Market (P30,000); Best Plaza and Park (P30,000); Best Central Material Recovery Facility (P30,000); Best Barangay (P30,000-1st, P20,000 – 2nd, P10,000 – 3rd); Best Backyard Garden (P10,000); Best Community Garden (P20,000); Best Roadside Beautification (P30,000); Best Municipal Nursery (P30,000); and Best Public Toilet (P10,000).
