-

THE Regional Office of the Department of Tourism (DOT) 11 expects an increase in the number of the visitors during the 80th Araw ng Dabaw due to the number of conventions held here in the past months.

“Daghan na ang nakaadto diri during their conferences and daghan ang nakabalita unsa ang naa diri sa Dabaw (Many people came here during their conferences and they’ve also learned about the activities and what they can find here),” Roberto P. Alabado III, DOT 11 regional director, said in an interview last week.

Add to that the fact that Davao City is the hometown of President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

Among the big events held here in Davao is the Asean Summit, which was attended by international dignitaries.

Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) Head Generose Tecson said they expect that more international visitors who will visit the celebration, which will run for two weeks.

“There are some businessmen, Koreans and Chinese, who will be around during the week of the celebration of Araw ng Dabaw, and the ambassadors of the European Union will also be here, so napaka-international natin,” Tecson said.

She said balikbayans are also expected to join the festivities.

Tecson said the city targets 150, 000 visitors for this month of March. Davao City Administrator Zuleika Lopez said activities are lined up per districts and barangays.

Activities are also slated in parks within the city for the public to enjoy.

“We always celebrate the greatness of the city, and congratulates every Dabawenyo for what has been achieved,” she said.
