Impeachment vs PRRD won’t prosper: Albano

- By Anna Angelica Sotto

A LAWMAKER assured that the impeachment complaint filed against President Rodrigo Duterte will not prosper as he has a multitude of supporters in the Congress backing him.

“The impeachment is part of the democratic process. They are free to file and we are free not to vote,” Second District Representative Mylene J. Garcia-Albano said in an interview during the Davao Light and Power Corporation’s turnover ceremony at the F. Bangoy National High School, Wednesday, February 22.

Garcia added that majority of those in Congress actively support the projects of the Duterte administration. “With the recent actions done by the president to reimpose the death penalty, I say he has more supporters. Daghan ang naga-support na ibalik ang death penalty sa kongreso (There are many supporters in the Congress who opt to reimpose the death penalty),” she said.

She also noted the President is doing his job well.

“Kita na taga-Davao nakaila jud sa iyaha. Kabalo ‘ta na he will continue to give out excellent service to the country (We Dabawenyos know him better. We know that he will continue to give excellent service to the country),” she added.

It was earlier reported that a congressman allied with opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV filed an impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.

Magdalo Party-list Representative Gary Alejano said the complaint he filed at the House of Representatives Secretary General last Thursday, March 16, is because the President violated the Constitution and betrayed the public trust with his actions.

The complaint is the first attempt to oust Duterte since he assumed the presidency in July 2016.
