MATI CITY, Davao Oriental – Matthieu Adrien Tao ended his stint with a total of six gold medals and one silver as the Davao City Durians dominated the just-concluded Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2017 swimming competition at the Mati Centennial Sports Complex here yesterday.

The city harvested a total of 42 golds, 31 silvers and 10 bronzes to emerge overall champion.

Tao, who won four golds in the Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships, topped the elementary boys 100-meter freestyle and 200m freestyle on top of sweeping the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle golds Tuesday. The Stella Maris Academy of Davao (Smad) sixth-grader also steered the city's golden finishes in 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley relay events.

He, however, failed to accomplish his goal to win all seven golds as he trailed Alteddy James Sumaoy of Tagum City in 400m freestyle.

"Okay lang kahit hindi ko nakuha yung pang seventh gold, kasi sabi nila mas okay yung matalo para meron kang reason na bumangon next time," Tao said, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao.
