Police colonel 'on vacation' to rescue Sayyaf men
A MILITARY official said detained PSupt. Maria Christina Nobleza, Deputy Regional Chief of the Crime Laboratory Region 11, has a relationship with an Abu Sayyaf member.
"Boyfriend niya si Dungon na member ng Abu Sayyaf Group and Maute Group (Her boyfriend is Dungon, who is a member of ASG and Maute Group)," Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief Lieutenant General Eduardo Año said in a text message to Sun.Star Davao.
Año said Dungon is closely related to late terrorists Khadafy Janjalani, Abu Solaiman, and Ahmad Santos.
The Regional Director for the Crime Lab 11 Police Supt. Geoby Manuel, in an interview with SunStar Davao, said prior to
prior to the encounter in Bohol, he received a relief order saying that from April 19 to May 17, Nobleza will be enrolled to the PNP Training Service at the Camp Crame.
"Iyahang gihimong OIC is si Police Sr. Inspector Genova, sabi nya mapapaaga ang alis niya kase magbabakasyon sya sa Bohol (She appointed Police Sr. Insp. Genova as OIC saying she will leave early as she's going on a vacation in Bohol)," he said.
He said Nobleza flew to Bohol the day after the first encounter between the AFP and ASG was reported last April 11.
Last April 22, Nobleza and the Reenor Lou Dungon were arrested after they tried to rescue the remaining Abu Sayyaf members during the second firefight with government forces in Clarin town, Bohol.
Año said Nobleza claimed they were in Clarin on a tour. However, investigators were wary after they recovered Nobleza’s cellphone and saw a text message from one of the Abu Sayyaf members, asking to be rescued.
The Director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 Manuel Gaerlan for his part condemned Nobleza for her involvement with the ASG.
"I am doing my own action against her although I have no admin authority over her for being assigned to a national support unit," he said.
“PRO 11 respectfully refers all queries to the Director, PNP Crime Laboratory in Camp Crame, her mother unit that has administrative control and supervision over her. Although her place of work as Crime Lab Officer is in Davao, PRO 11 does not have admin control over her person, only operational supervision on matters of investigation,” Gaerlan added.
PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa confirmed Monday that Nobleza is in a relationship with Dungon, the one driving the vehicle that Nobleza was riding in. Dungon is a suspected bomb maker.
Dela Rosa said they confirmed this during their interrogation and identified Dungon, alias Kudre, as a relative of late Abu Sayyaf leader and founder Abdurajik Abubakar Janjalani and a brother-in-law of slain Abu Sayyaf leader Abu Solaiman.
Dungon was arrested in Marawi City in May 2013, but was released from prison after he presented a fake birth certificate to authorities.
