Background checking of cops intensified
THE Davao City Police Office (DCP) is currently conducting an intensive background check within their ranks to check if any of their personnel is involved in illegal activities.
DCPO spokesperson Police Senior Inspector (PSI) Ma. Teresita Gaspan told reporters yesterday that an intensified intelligence monitoring is being undertaken to identify personnel who are implicated in illegal activities following the capture of Superintendent Maria Christina Nobleza, PNP Crime Laboratory Davao 11 deputy regional chief, in Bohol.
Gaspan said they were surprised upon hearing the report on the capture of Nobleza for allegedly working with the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).
She added that as mandated by the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald dela Rosa and DCPO city director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum, they will not tolerate inappropriate acts committed by one of their personnel and would address it objectively.
Gaspan underscored that the case of Nobleza is an isolated case and does not automatically implicate the entire PNP organization as it was Nobleza’s personal choice to work with the terrorist group.
Since the case is still under investigation, she refused to give additional information to avoid unverified speculations and since Nobleza is not under their office.
Meanwhile, DCPO assured that they are on top of every situation as they have already implementLOCAL
ed maximum security measures to prevent any attack on the city.
“Generally peaceful ang Davao City, however, we do not discount the possibility that there are presence of threat groups considering the developments in other provinces,” Gaspan said.
Thus, he appealed to the public to remain vigilant and alert and cooperate with the police officers in locating the suspicious people that would affect the safety and security of the city. JCR
