THE Davao City Library and Information Center (CLIC) launched yesterday the Chinese Corner Project to educate Dabawenyos about the culture of China.
National Library of the Philippines Director Cesar Gilbert Q. Adriano, in his message, said that the project aims to provide clients books of various resources and showcase the multi-cultural community in Davao City.
“Recently the Chinese Corner was established in Butuan, Zamboanga, Cebu, Baguio and the Provincial Libraries of Ilocos and Quezon” he added.
He said Davao City is the eighth city where a Chinese Corner Project was established. The corner is a partnership between the National Library of the Philippines and Chinese government.
Pan Feng, cultural
counselor of the People’s Republic of China to the Philippines, said the project will allow better understanding of culture between the two countries.
“Language is essential in maintaining and deepening cooperation and changes of two countries and two people. Although we are able to communicate with each other in body languages, hand signals, and gestures, language is also considered important,” he said.
Feng said they hope more and more Filipinos will be interested in learning the Chinese language and culture through the project.
Aside from Adriano and Feng, also present were Davao City Administator Zuleika Lopez, and Executive Director of National Book Development Board of the Philippines Jerry Tizon, among others.
In a separate statement, OICLibrarian Pedrita Badar, hopes that the event will give pleasure not only to Filipino readers but also to the Chinese community here.
