Man faces raps for carnapping

-

A MAN is facing charges before the court after he was found liable for stealing a private vehicle in Talomo, Davao City, last March 13.

Charged with violation of Republic Act 6539, otherwise known as The Anti-Carnapping Act, is Jonathan Manaba Nillas.

He was also charged with violation of Republic Act 4136 or The Land Transportation and Traffic Code, and Resistance and Disobedience to an Agent of a Person in Authority.

In a two-page resolution approved on April 18, prosecutor Grace Lydda F. Lariego found probable cause to charge the accused based on the complaint filed by Gina Parreñas.

The accused was arrested at Petunia Street, Purok Errve 2, Phase 2 El Rio Vista in Davao City on April 4, Tuesday, after personnel of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) 11 noticed that the plate number of the vehicle is a counterfeit.

A mobile 1106 led by PO3 Moh Salman Arpa were conducting operation along the highway in

Barangay Langub, Ma-a when they spotted a Toyota Fortuner with a fake plate number LGU-183.

Convinced that the plate number is a counterfeit, the police operatives verified the matter to the Land Transportation Office (LTO). The latter informed them that LGU-183 pertains to a Mitsubishi Montero 2010 model.

The police tailed the accused with the intention to verify the registration documents of the Toyota Fortuner. They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the accused sped up and drove towards Diversion Road.

Police tried to block the accused along Petunia Street at El Rio, but Nillas attempted to bump the arresting officers. He evaded the police by turning left until he crashed to a concrete fence.

In an initial investigation of the police, the vehicle driven by the accused was similar to the vehicle which was reported car napped last March 13.

Upon the request for macroetching examination, it was confirmed that the vehicle driven by the accused is owned by the complainant. ICT (For full story visit www.sunstar.com.ph/ davao/)
