Unexpected Heart Attack Triggers

(Part 4)

-

(Foreword: This is the continuation of our response to Lira of LMPI regarding her query on unexpected heart attack triggers.) Dear Lira of LMPI,

Now, here are more unexpected heart attack triggers that will get you by surprise.

A Big, Heavy Feast

Yes! It’s really a feast when you are eating a big and heavy meal. May is coming and fiestas are abound. Those lechon, humba, pochero and a lot more are really to die for. But, before you think of jumping to death over a good meal, step back for about some few seconds. Remember that this will hurt not just your waistline. This is what happens when you eat a large amount of food in one sitting – your stress hormone norepinephrine will raise and this can jumpstart your blood pressure and heart rate to rise – which now can trigger heart attack. I remember my good old granny; he had a stroke after eating lechon. You can still eat them, though. But, be sure, just a bit would make things go fine, or else you will be on fire. Moreover, very fatty meals can also lead to a sudden surge of bad fats in your blood that can damage some of your blood vessels.

So, be sure to mull over before you gobble.

Intense Feelings

When you feel strongly for something, whether they are positive or negative, can bring great impact to your heart health. Anger, grief, stress and even just being annoyed can actually spurt out a heart problem. But, joyful events can also lead to heart attack. I remember a certain movie scene where an actor won the lotto; but, had a heart attack after learning that his numbers won the jackpot. That maybe in the movies, but that can actually happen. So, in case, you will win the lotto, dear, just chill and celebrate subtly.

Control is the key, whether you are in heat of anger or in the mirth of cheers. If something angers you, just think that this is not worth it to cost your heart – and maybe even your life. So, just laugh it off and let God control you.

Hmmm…as much as I wanted to talk more of the tips and tricks of the trade to help you in your fight against these unexpected heart triggers, but, we are again losing space this time, so let me then continue this in my next issue. Until then!
