- BY NELSON C. BAGAFORO

MORE than a dozen engineers specializing in different disciplines from Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC) spearheaded the opening of the 2017 Brigada week in Maasim, Sarangani last May 16.

Since 2010, SEC has been providing public schools in Maasim with different building materials to help in the repair and maintenance of their facilities.

The deployment of engineers to assist in this year's Brigada Eskwela is a step up in physical involvement for community projects.

"Sarangani Energy's commitment in helping improve the lives of people in our host community of Maasim doesn't end with just giving them materials for repair and maintenance of the schools," Joel Aton, SEC's project assurance head said.

"We are more than willing to lend the talents of our engineers who specialize in different fields such as electricity and construction to help our public schools," he added.

The weeklong Brigada Eskwela in Maasim was highlighted by the ocular inspection of the Du30 Classrooms now being currently constructed at Mangelen Integrated School in Kamanga by SEC engineers and officials from the Department of Education (Deped).

The Du30 Classroom is a 126-square-meter, two-classroom building which was committed to the school by no less than Alsons Consolidated Resources (ACR) Inc. and SEC chair and president Tomas I. Alcantara.

Once completed, classrooms which cost P1.5 million will also be fully equipped with a complete set of multi-media elearning equipment.

"We want to use the building for our pupils from Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD)," according to Cleofe Quintana, principal of the beneficiary school.

In 2014, SEC also donated a classroom building in Mangelen Integrated School which is now being utilized to support their K+12 curriculum needs.
