10 teams in PSC-backed Kadayawan girls volley
DAVAO CITY - THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), in coordination with the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO), will hold the Kadayawan Girls Volleyball Tournament on August 11 to 13 at the University of Mindanao (UM) gym in Matina, Davao City.
In a meeting with coordinators of the Philippine Sports Institute (PSI) and partners at a restaurant in Davao City Monday, PSC Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey said players' welfare need to be prioritized during the tournament.
"Kailangang mabusog ang mga bata, hindi sila dapat magutom," Maxey said when budget for the players' free snacks and lunch for three days was discussed.
Participants will also be given parade shirts, certificates and transportation subsidy.
The tournament, according to him, is for elementary public school teams that were determined by the Department of Education (Deped) Davao City Division.
Maxey's executive assistant Karlo Paolo Pates, for his part, said there are 10 confimed teams including Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Central Elementary School, Matina Central Elementary School, Kabacan Elementary School, V. Corcuera Elemetary School, Tambobong Elementary School, Jose Bastida Elementary School, Buhangin CES and SPED Center, Sirawan Elementary School, Talandag Elementary School and Vicente Hizon Elementary School.
A coaches' briefing is set on August 10.
PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez will keynote the opening of the tournament that will be officiated by Balibolista de Dabaw with Abet Bernan as tournament director.
Cash prizes of P10,000, P7,000 and P5,000 will be awarded to the champion, runner-up and thirdplacer while consolation prizes of P3,000 will be given to losing teams.
