SP ok's law requiring housing projects to get clearance from DCWD
THE 18th Davao City Council on Tuesday approved on suspended rules a resolution recommending a moratorium on the approval of housing subdivisions until the Davao City Water District (DCWD) provides guidelines for future housing applications.
Davao City Councilor Jesus Joseph Zozobrado pushed for the passing of the resolution stating that the consumers served by DCWD complained of water interruptions and low water supply in the past few months.
The passed resolution stated that on June 27, 2017, DCWD implemented the 12-hour rotational water supply as part of its ongoing monitoring and evaluation of all the interventions to improve the Cabantian Water Supply System (CWSS) situation.
It also stated that the Council previously requested DCWD to conduct a maximum study on the number of households that they can supply with water and provide a protective buffer on the water supply and coordinate with the City Council on their findings.
"Prior to such undertaking by the DCWD, a moratorium on the approval of housing subdivisions in the city is proper and warranted for," the resolution read.
The same resolution also stated that an integrated water resource development and management must be undertaken to improve planning, conservation, development, and management of water without compromising the sustainability of the water supply in the city and provide the poor with equitable access to safe and reliable water supply.
The Office of the City Mayor, through the City Administrator's Office, Office of the Vice Mayor, Office of the City Councilors, Davao City Water District, City Planning and Development Office, City Engineers Office and all other concerned departments and offices will have to be furnished with the copy of the ordinance
for their guidance.
Previously, Sub-committee on Housing and Subdivision on high-end projects chair Davao City Councilor Bonifacio Militar said they always request developers and owners applying for the Preliminary Approval and Locational Clearance (PALC) to provide another alternative source aside from the DCWD.BSC (For full story visit www.sunstar.com.ph/ davao/)
