Calibrators are champion
Pag-Ibig Homes takes 2nd place
THE GJCC Calibrators clinched the 1st FKA-AgriChemical Corporation-backed Catalunan Grande Basketball League (CGBL) title after routing Pag-ibig Homes 89-72, at the Monte Maria Covered Court in Catalunan Grande Saturday evening.
Dan Marata went out with a high percentage shooting, dropping 31 points including seven triples.
Arnold Sison and Wilson Panes also added 18 and 17 points, respectively, to seal the victory.
Homes, meanwhile, leaned on Aldrin Caballes who scored 20 points in a losing effort.
The Calibrators seared to a double digit lead in the second quarter when Marata unleashed five three-pointers to close the halftime with a 49-38 advantage.
Homes started to struggle when key player Tom Miranda was in foul trouble, having three fouls in his sleeves as early as the second half, leaving Caballes with no proficient help in the offensive end.
From there, the Calibrators established a solid lead behind the combined efforts of Panes, Sison and Marata, and never looked back.
It was the happiest moment for GJCC captain Reinante Cabello who received the trophy and cash prizes from the FKA AgriChemical officials and Tanduay operations officer Jerrold Plaza.
"It was a history for us. We lost two games in a row in the eliminations and we didn't expect anything from there. But we are glad that we pulled it off in the end and we won the championship," Cabello said.
The Calibrators took home P5,000 and an automatic entry for the second conference slated in September.
Homes, meanwhile, received P5,000 and a trophy courtesy of Tanduay Athletics.
El Grande Multi-Purpose Cooperative backed out in the fighting for third showdown, allowing Pag-ibig Heights to claim the P3,000 third place prize and a trophy.
A Tanduay Davao crew, however, won the half-time half court shooting contest and romp away with two sacks of B-MEG Alertone Feeds courtesy of FIDA Feeds Center.
