COTABATO CITY - Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño Mendoza graced the opening of Kapagana Festival 2017 at Pikit Municipal Plaza, Pikit Cotabato on August 24, 2017 as part of the 103rd Foundation Anniversar­y of the Province of Cotabato/ 7th Kalivungan Festival.

According to the governor, in every Kalivungan, she is inspired to see that the festival includes the different tribes or ethnic groups and have a chance to be proud of their own culture through music and dances.

Kapagana festival includes “Sipa sa Manggis” a native Maguindana­oan game played by two groups using rattan strips to hit and untie a prize dangling from the tip of a bamboo pole, and Kulintanga­n Extravagan­za played by some artistic and skillful muslim brethren to uphold their rich cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, the threeday 7th Mindanao Chess Open Championsh­ip closed Sunday at the Capitol Rooftop, Amas, Kidapawan City. SIDNEY NANINI/PGO
