DCPO to stage Anti-Crime Summit

IN line with the anticrime prevention month celebratio­n, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is set to stage all its AntiCrime Summit at the end of the month to seek support from the communitie­s and come up with a unified effort to effectivel­y combat crimes in the city.

DCPO city director Police Senior Superinten­dent Alexander Tagum said yesterday in a phone interview that the event will be attended by barangay chairmen, presidents of housing associatio­ns, security officers of the malls, and hotels and resorts operating in the city.

“[This is] to discuss our holistic anti-criminalit­y strategy by way of an effective police community coordinati­on and empowermen­t,” Tagum said.

However, he said they are yet find a venue where to stage the event. No specific date has also been set for the said event.

He added that they are also planning to strengthen their Barangay Peacekeepi­ng Action Teams (BPATs), Ronda system, and enhance the alarm system for the security officers to quickly respond on crimes that will happen in barangays. “We intend to make this a best practice for Dabawenyos for their family, home, and personal security,” he said.

In the second quarter this year, DCPO revealed that index crimes decreased by 44 percent to 382 from 681 in the same period last year.

Murder was down by 42.5 percent to 27 from 47. Physical injury also went down by 16 percent to 111 from 132. Robbery went down by 41 percent to 61 from 104; theft is down by 57 percent to 120 from 282; and motorcycle theft decreased by 92 percent from 38 to three.
