Fire safety pushed in Deped curriculum
THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is pushing to include fire safety education in the curriculum to strengthen the Department of Education's effort to promote fire safety and prevention awareness among students.
BFP Davao spokesperson fire inspector Christian Cena said that the BFP national headquarters is conducting pilot testing in partnership with Deped to incorporate fire safety education in their cur- riculum.
Cena added that they are focusing on Kinder to Grade School students.
"We believe na pag tinuruan mo yong bata at an early stage, siyempre ma-eengrave yan sa isipan nila at pati sa puso nila until such time na matatandaan nila yong curriculum na dinaanan nila," he said.
BFP will then conduct assessment if the subject under the new curricuagencies,
lum is effective before it will be implemented nationwide.
"We are still waiting for a feedback coming from the national headquarters," Cena said.
Meanwhile, Cena noted that fire incidents in Davao City went down from January to August this year with 224 fire cases compared to 432 in the same period last year.
Majority of fire incidents transpired in residential areas followed by business establishments and storage fires with electrical faulty wirings as the top cause.
"It implies that we have already established an effective method in educating the public about fire safety," he said.
Some of the efforts they conducted are fire awareness seminars in barangays.
"Next ang ginagawa sa barangay tinatawag nating Barangay Ugnayan and lastly ang ginagwang training sa mga responders, volunteer groups auxiliary training for certificate of competency," he said. JCR
