Peace forum set Sept 11

IN line with the celebration of the International Day of Peace, the Davao Peace Fair Network will hold a peace forum on September 11 at the seventh floor, Finster Hall of Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City.

Magnolia Yrasuegui, Davao Peace Fair Convenor told reporters on Wednesday that the Davao Peace Fair Network, a local-based broad coalition of non-government organizations, government academe, civil society and volunteer organizations will organize the event.

The event aims to promote peace and unite the peace players to better appreciate this year's theme which is centered on, "Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All." Resource speakers have been invited to discuss their respective topics.

"This year's theme honors the spirit of together, a

global initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity in the face of global migration, displacements due to war, violent extremism and conflict," Yrasuegui said.

Their group hopes to further their advocacy down to the grassroots level and engage all sectors of the society amid the ongoing conflict in Mindanao to unite effort in peace building.

They also organized a monthlong Davao Peace Fair 2017 that aims to promote awareness on peace issues and showcase innovative grassroots peace initiatives by multi-sectoral groups including the civil society, the religious, youth organizations, and the security sector.

Culimination is set on September 21, the International Day of Peace.

"Everything is all about peace. We are all being hit from all sides na parang hindi na natin alam kung saan tayo lulugar. This peace forum is going to be about peace not only with each other but peace with ourselves and especially in our community," she said. JCR
