Walk to raise scholarship funds slated on Sept 17

-

TO advance its aim of helping build a church of the home and a Church for the poor, Catholic family group Couples for Christ will hold its annual Global Walk for Scholars on Sunday, September 17, starting at the Matina town square, Davao City. With this year’s theme “Walk an Extra Mila for Love,” the event hopes to beat its previous record by attracting more than 3,000 walkers.

Dubbed the Ancop Global walk, this is part of a simultaneous annual walk for college and high school scholars to take place in major cities around the world.

According to event head Benedict Mejorada, the walk is an effort to help less fortunate families achieve their dream of helping their children finish school. “Every walker helps since a big portion of the registration fee goes to defraying not only school fees but also expenses for schooling such as materials,” he said.

Organized by Catholic Lay group Couples for Christ, the Ancop program has sponsored more than 3,000 scholars in the country since 2011, with almost a hundred graduates from various schools and colleges in Davao city alone.

“It is our hope that with every year, more walkers can join, so that we can have more scholars,” said Mejorada.

Interested participants can register for P300 to join the walk, which will start at 5:00 a.m. at the Matina Town Square.

After the walk, participants will gather again at the MTS for a mass and simple breakfast.
