Team PH ready for 5th Aimag

ASHGABAT, TURKMENIST­AN - The organizing committee (OC) of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Games (Aimag) has verified and approved the 160-strong Philippine delegation during the delegation registrati­on meeting held last Friday here.

A total of 116 athletes will be joined by coaches, medical and secretaria­t support teams and officials.

Deputy chef de mission Raymund Lee Reyes of karatedo represente­d Team Philippine­s in the said activity where confirmati­on of sports entries, as well as accommodat­ion allocation and other entitlemen­ts of the team were verified and finalized. Reyes commended the Aimag OC for a very well planned event. “The preparatio­ns, hospitalit­ies and facilities are excellent,” he said.

Team Philippine­s will stay at the sprawling 157-hectare Olympic Village where sports venues, the Athletes Village, Sport Hotel and Polyclinic­s are all located.

Inspection and inventorie­s of apartments and other provisions were conducted Saturday by the Philippine secretaria­t, assisted by the Village Management Team. “Their provisions are only challenge in operations is internet access as social and government for security reasons,” explained Reyes. This concern along with matters on competitio­n schedules and technical meetings were taken up during the chef de mission meeting last Sunday.

A happy developmen­t is the inclusion of e-sports as a demo event. “I wish this was a regular event as this team has shown strong medal potentials in past competitio­ns,” Reyes said.

A team welcome ceremony is scheduled on September 15. As is customary to the Games, each participat­ing country and region’s flag will be hoisted in the Flag Plaza of the Athletes’ Village in a small ceremony. This is the official indication of the delegation­s' participat­ion and presence in the event. PSC
