Sara creates anti-scam unit

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio issued an order creating the Davao City Anti-Scam Unit under the Davao City Mayor's Office.

Duterte-Carpio signed the Executive Order on October 3, 2017 and released on October 10, 2017. The EO mandates the creation and compositio­n of the Anti-Scam Unit defining its duties and functions and other purposes.

Section 2 of the ordinance read that the Anti-Scam Unit will be composed of Davao City Anti-Scam Unit head, deputy unit in-charge, unit investigat­ors, and unit support staff.

The Anti-Scam unit will primarily serve as the main arm of the CMO in receiving complaints related to any dealing or business transactio­n treated with fraud or alleged to have been engaged using fraudulent means.

Also part of its mandate is to assist and coordinate with other government agencies in the con-

duct of investigat­ions related to fraudulent business transactio­ns and in building up cases against identified respondent­s/scammers.

Assistance of victims of fraudulent business transactio­ns in filing of complaints against identified scammers within the jurisdicti­on of Davao City and performanc­e of other duties and functions which may be assigned by the city mayor and which may be necessary in order to fully address concern affecting the public are also part of the unit's tasks.

All expenses necessary and incidental to the effective implementa­tion of the operations of the Davao City Anti-Scam Unit shall be charged to funds made available for the purpose of the office of the city mayor, subject to accounting and auditing rules. KVC
