Group eyes housing program for BPO workers

-

THE Subdivision and Housing Developers Association (SHDA) is looking into studying the employment structure of business process outsourcing (BPO) employees in order to provide them with socialized housing program.

SHDA board member Sol Lagmay said BPO employees including the call center agents are one of the markets that their national counterpart is looking into studying and checking by the developers.

Currently, what they see as a challenge in proTHE viding socialized housing developments for these types of employees is their lack of security of tenure especially that most of them do not really last that long in their job.

“That’s one market that’s being made to be checked by the developers. They are a big sector in the industry that needs housing. But the problem is, when we ask for approval of their documents in Pag-ibig, it is oftentimes disapproved. It’s because of the security of the job,” said Lagmay.

She added SHDA Manila plans to create a mechanism that will protect BPO employees and

the help of the private sector.

"We are also reaching out to our private industry as we cannot rely solely on the government to fund us in our production expansion," Turtur said.

He added that the country is ready to produce 40 percent more than the average cacao production next year along with the increase of new cacao farmers. BSC
