Manila-bound athletes need financial aid
AFTER winning medals in the recently-concluded Muay Thai National Open 4th League Davao held in Tagum, the King's Sword Martial Arts will vie for honors in the upcoming national finals on December 7 in Manila but they still lack funding to make the trip.
King's Sword Martial Arts president Nell Jone Astudillo, during yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao, said only two of 10 qualifiers from the team will make the trip.
"Sariling gastos kasi ng players yung pag-alis nila tapos yung billeting lang ang free. Kaya sabi ko sa kanila kung gusto talaga nilang maglaro, mag-ipon-ipon na sila kasi kailangan nila ng about P10,000 para sa lahat ng expenses," Astudillo said as he is also seeking help for his athletes.
Richard Cañete, meanwhile, said the athletes have been training for the competition.
Cañete, meanwhile, said the athletes are doing well during the training.
"Maganda naman ang training nila. Nagsisikap sila ng maigi," he said. He is assisted by former Philippine Team mainstay Sharmaine Florece during training.
Astudillo, however, hopes that everyone could compete in the nationals.
National qualifiers are Sharmaine Florece, Louise Jerome Cadag, Nathaniel Lumacang, Charis Delle Cunanan, Eusebio Tabilon, Jay Verdadero, Neil Van Udarbe, Sandi Beekhuizen, Mark John Montes, Jacob Taganas and Jahaziel Barbero, Randyl Balunos Taojo and Jovith Jade Gempesan.
